Dersimer in Europe
With the immigration of “guest workers” from Turkey to European countries in the early 1960s, many derimers came to Europe. They live mainly in Germany and in the countries of Holland, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Great Britain. At present, the number of people of Dersim origin in Europe is estimated at 200,000-300,000.
In Europe, the people of Dersim have integrated into society on the one hand, and on the other hand, many have tried to cultivate their identity and show solidarity with the people in their homeland. In order to show solidarity with Dersimers at home, the Dersimers have founded several initiatives, communities and associations in Europe. On the one hand, these associations do solidarity work, and on the other hand, they keep their culture and identities alive in European countries with cultural activities.
The people of Dersim want a peaceful coexistence in Europe and in their homeland on the basis of human rights and democracy. They want to exist with their independent identities in the diversity of cultures.
